The VAPA Magnet will give students an equitable, arts-focused high school experience that centers creativity and an interdisciplinary curriculum. Students will engage in experiential learning that prepares them for college and career and nurtures their understanding of creative thinking and innovation.

 

The VAPA students will graduate with an understanding of how to use creativity in a wide variety of pursuits and how creative thinking can shape the solutions to problems facing our world. Students will experience a wide range of opportunities to explore their own creativity, will benefit from a core curriculum that integrates the arts throughout traditional subject areas, and will participate in professional mentoring and creative career exploration activities.

 

The Visual and Performing Arts Magnet programming is currently being designed through a collaborative process with students, families, community members, and educators. More details will be available soon, and students can expect deeper learning over the course of 4 years in one of the following curricular pathways:

Jordan VAPA Magnet Launch Party
Jordan VAPA Magnet has officially launched! The Jordan VAPA Design Team hosted students, families, and partners on Jordan's campus on January 26, 2023,  to explore and play in our new spaces. Attendees were welcomed by Mr. Marse and Mr. Martinez in the STEAM Lab who guided them in making mini racing cars. Attendees were then welcomed into the Superstudio by Mr. Cabrera, who guided them in creating a tile that contributed to a larger image of Watts! 
The Launch Party was a success and the Jordan VAPA Design Team is excited to continue working with our families and partners in the grand opening of the Magnet in the Fall of 2023.

 

Jordan High School's VAPA Magnet Design Team has been working with XQ Institute to design an innovative high school that thinks beyond the traditional educational experience.

XQ works in communities throughout the country, with individual schools and entire school systems, to help them dream big about what high school could be, turn their innovative ideas into action, and create more rigorous and equitable schools. They know that seeing is believing, so we meet people where they are to share the importance and possibility of change through listening, learning, and storytelling. And our open-source tools, based on research and design thinking, empower people to take up the challenge of transforming their high schools with a unifying goal: unlocking the American promise of a high-quality education for everyone.
